J. J. Keller Responds to Hand & Arm Injury Data with Cut-Resistant Glove Line Including All ANSI Cut Levels

OSHA Indicates 70% of Hand and Arm Injuries Are Preventable

It’s a good news/bad news situation when it comes to workplace hand injuries.

The good news is that OSHA found more than 70% of hand and arm injuries can be prevented with personal protective equipment such as safety gloves. However, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that 70% of workers who experienced hand injuries in 2015 were not wearing gloves.

Worse yet, the 30% of injured workers who were wearing gloves were wearing gloves that were inadequate, damaged, or the wrong type for the hazards present.

Recognizing that cuts are one of the most common hand injuries, and as part of its commitment to protecting people and the businesses they run, J. J. Keller is expanding its line of SAFEGEAR® cut-resistant gloves.

The J. J. Keller® SAFEGEAR® glove offering will now span all of the newly expanded ANSI cut levels from A1 to A9, including new:

  • nitrile coated A5 gloves with 25% steel fiber
  • nitrile coated A8 gloves with 40% steel fiber
  • nitrile coated A9 gloves with 30% tungsten wire

“Employers should perform a personal protective equipment (PPE) assessment to determine which types of PPE will provide their workers with adequate protection from cuts and lacerations,” said Ray Qureshi-Chishti, EHS editor at J. J. Keller & Associates, Inc. “With all of the various styles and cut levels of safety gloves available today, there’s a glove for every workplace application, and no reason not to offer workers cut-resistant gloves.”
