Adivi named ASSP’s Safety Professional of the Year

Bala Siva Srikanth Adivi, CSP, CFIOSH, an occupational health, safety and environment expert at the Kuwait Oil Company and 12-year member of the American Society of Safety Professionals, is ASSP’s 2020 Safety Professional of the Year. His visionary leadership and high productivity as a TPL Specialist I have advanced the profession while enhancing ASSP’s membership abroad. The Society has nearly 40,000 members worldwide.

A dynamic workplace safety professional for more than two decades, Adivi has initiated many operational enhancements that have resulted in measurable workplace safety improvements. Examples include his efforts to implement safety and environment management system standards such as ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001. His innovative work on corporate-level task forces and various safety initiatives demonstrates his broad and practical leadership. He played a key role in the Kuwait Oil Company winning an ASSP safety innovation award in 2014.

“Bala has earned this significant honor with his passion and daily commitment to safety and health,” said ASSP President Diana Stegall, CSP, CFPS, ARM, SMS, CPCU. “He is known for being a self-motivated, high-performing leader who remains down-to-earth and personable. He’s a great example of what ASSP represents.”

Adivi’s volunteer service with ASSP is extensive as he has remained highly involved at all levels, presently serving as Administrator of the International Practice Specialty. He has achieved Safety Professional of the Year honors at the region, chapter and practice specialty levels in addition to his newly attained Society-wide recognition. In 2017, Adivi was the architect behind the first mobile app for the ASSP Kuwait Chapter’s Professional Development Conference and Exposition.

“His upbeat personality and energetic style make him a great safety colleague,” said Ashok Garlapati, CSP, CFIOSH, QEP, a health, safety and environment consultant (D&TS) for the Kuwait Oil Company. “He maintains the highest standards of quality while exploring and understanding the best avenues for project implementation.”

Adivi holds a master’s degree in ecology and environment and a bachelor’s degree in fire engineering. He also earned an advanced diploma in industrial safety. He has authored many technical papers on key safety topics and has presented his findings at international conferences.

Each year, ASSP honors an occupational safety and health professional who demonstrates outstanding achievement in the safety field while making significant contributions to advancing the profession. The award is sponsored by W.W. Grainger Inc., a premier industrial supplies and equipment provider.
