AIHA CEO Honored as Fellow of the American Society of Association Executives

Sloan will be honored as a member of ASAE’s Fellows Class of 2021 at the ASAE 2021 Annual Meeting and Exposition.

AIHA, the association for scientists and professionals committed to preserving and ensuring occupational and environmental health and safety (OEHS) in the workplace and community, announces that Lawrence D. Sloan, the organization’s chief executive officer, has been named a 2021 Fellow of the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE). Sloan will be honored as a member of ASAE’s Fellows Class of 2021 at the ASAE 2021 Annual Meeting and Exposition, which will be held virtually during the week of August 16, 2021.

Sloan, who joined AIHA as CEO of the association in 2016, is a seasoned association professional known for his track record in passing national legislation and regulations, building coalitions with other trade groups, and introducing state-of-the-art services and tools to benefit organization’s members. Prior to joining AIHA, he served as president and CEO of the Society of Chemical Manufacturers and Affiliates, the leading trade association serving the specialty chemical sector. He holds a Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering from the University of Pennsylvania and a Master of Business Administration from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University. Sloan is credentialed as a Certified Association Executive (CAE) through ASAE.

“Lawrence was chosen by the ASAE Fellows Selection Committee for his leadership skills, his experience and expertise with associations, and his vision for their future,” said John Mulhausen, CIH, the president of AIHA. “We thank him for being an exemplary leader of AIHA and for furthering the OEHS profession.”

The ASAE Fellows selection process includes an in-depth application describing the individual’s demonstrated leadership in diversity and inclusion, foresight, and commitment to the association community; an interview with two members of the selection committee; and selection from among a group of highly qualified candidates. ASAE’s Fellows Class of 2021 is comprised of only 10 individuals, Sloan among them.

Scott Wiley, FASAE, CAE, the president and CEO of the Ohio Society of CPAs as well as ASAE’s chair of Fellows, praised the association’s 2021 honorees. “These 10 extraordinary professionals bring a diversity of backgrounds and perspectives that will help the Fellows continue their leadership contributions to ASAE and throughout the association community,” said Wiley.

Sloan joins a body of 273 association executive professionals who have received the ASAE Fellow designation since the program’s inception in 1986.
