AIHA Declares September Worker Health and Safety Month
AIHA will emphasize a specific worker health and safety theme every week throughout September.
AIHA has established September 2023 as the inaugural Worker Health and Safety Month. In the coming weeks, AIHA members will lead a campaign to raise awareness about workplace health hazards and underscore the importance of collaborative efforts in establishing healthier workplaces and communities.
AIHA will emphasize a specific worker health and safety theme every week throughout September.
The first week will focus on the key role of occupational and environmental health and safety (OEHS) professionals in safeguarding health and well-being in workplaces and communities. The following week will address the benefits of improving indoor air quality in schools, such as the potential to boost students’ academic performance. The third week will emphasize the importance of educating teen workers on safety. The final week will cover risks associated with mold exposure and methods for mold prevention.
In addition, AIHA will host the first-ever Virtual Congressional Advocacy Week. From September 25 to 29, AIHA members are encouraged to arrange meetings with their members of Congress to discuss congressional support for workplace and community health and safety.
“We are excited to introduce the inaugural Worker Health and Safety Month, an initiative that underscores our commitment to promoting the well-being of individuals across workplaces and communities,” said AIHA President, Dina Siegel CIH, CSP, CBSP, FAIHA. “Through collaborative efforts and focused themes, we aim to raise awareness about health hazards, drive positive change, and advocate for safer environments for everyone.”
AIHA invites members of the public to join Worker Health and Safety Month as consumers, employees, or employers. The association offers free resources to guide individuals and organizations in creating healthier and safer workplaces and communities.
