AIHA Issues Spanish-Language Translation of Pandemic OEHS Guide

El Rol del Higienista Ocupacional en una Pandemia, Segunda edición, may now be accessed, along with other free resources, on AIHA’s Recursos en español webpage.

AIHA, the association for scientists and professionals committed to preserving and ensuring workplace health and safety, is pleased to announce the publication of El Rol del Higienista Ocupacional en una Pandemia, Segunda edición (PDF), the Spanish-language version of AIHA’s guidance document, The Role of the Industrial Hygienist in a Pandemic, Second edition (PDF).

This free guide includes information that industrial hygiene and occupational and environmental health and safety (IH/OEHS) professionals need to protect the working public during a pandemic, updated to address the challenges presented by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Recognizing the importance of globally accessible IH/OEHS information, AIHA worked with Lucinette Alvarado, CIH, and members of the Peruvian Occupational Hygiene Association (Asociación Peruana de Higiene Ocupacional) to translate and adapt the English-language guide into Spanish.

“Offering this free guide in Spanish will not only help our members and the association reach Spanish-speaking IH/OEHS professionals and communities,” said Lawrence D. Sloan, CEO of AIHA. “It also demonstrates AIHA’s commitment to providing timely information  that is accurate, readily accessible, and easy to understand.”

El Rol del Higienista Ocupacional en una Pandemia, Segunda edición, may now be accessed, along with other free resources, on AIHA’s Recursos en español webpage. The development of the revised English guide was originally funded by a cooperative agreement between AIHA and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in 2021. AIHA’s Biosafety and Microbiology Committee published the English-language version that year under the oversight of senior editors Roger D. Lewis, PhD, CIH, FAIHA, and Robert D. Strode, MS, CIH, FAIHA.

AIHA will continue to update the Recursos en español as part of its mission to promote healthier workplaces and a healthier world to Spanish-speaking communities. Other materials available include Spanish-language versions of the association’s 27 Back to Work Safely guidance documents, which were created in 2020 and 2021 in response to business closures related to COVID-19, and various other technical materials that address control strategies.
