AIHA Receives $10,000 Donation from American Chemistry Council

Funds will support the AIHA Guideline Foundation’s Emergency Response Planning Guidelines program.

AIHA is pleased to announce that the AIHA Guideline Foundation has been awarded $10,000 by the American Chemistry Council (ACC). This donation will support the AIHA Guideline Foundation’s Emergency Response Planning Guidelines (ERPGs) program, which provides community-based air concentration guidelines for single exposures to hazardous chemical agents. ERPGs are intended for use as tools to assess the adequacy of accident prevention and emergency response plans; they are instrumental in transportation emergency planning, community emergency response plans, and incident prevention and mitigation.

“We’re grateful for ACC’s generous support,” says AIHA CEO Lawrence Sloan, MBA, FASAE, CAE. “ERPGs are imperative guidelines for first responders and disaster relief professionals, and ACC’s donation helps sustain their development.”

“ACC appreciates the opportunity to partner with AIHA and support its mission to advance community and workplace safety,” said Kimberly Wise White, PhD, ACC’s vice president of regulatory and scientific affairs. “We believe collaborative programs like this are important, and that they align with our industry’s efforts to prevent accidents and bolster emergency response.”

The AIHA Guideline Foundation is the only organization to establish and publish up-to-date airborne levels for risk assessment of brief, single exposures to hazardous chemicals. The AIHA Guideline Foundation’s Emergency Response Planning Guidelines and Workplace Environmental Exposure Levels Handbook is a manual used every day by first responders in the U.S. and Canada for assistance in managing the crucial first 30 minutes of hazardous material transportation accident response. Since the handbook’s first edition was published in 1989, state emergency management coordinators have distributed millions of copies to the emergency response community.
