AIHA’s “IH Heroes” Game Receives Brandon Hall Group Human Capital Management Award

First announced in June 2020, IH Heroes is based on the five core elements of industrial hygiene (IH): anticipation, recognition, evaluation, control, and confirmation.

AIHA, the association for scientists and professionals committed to preserving and ensuring occupational and environmental health and safety in the workplace and community, has been recognized for its IH Heroes learning game. The Brandon Hall Group awarded AIHA the bronze in the Best Use of Games or Simulations for Learning category of the research and analyst firm’s annual Human Capital Management Excellence Awards. IT management company Encora Digital Inc., AIHA’s partner in developing the game, is a corecipient of the award.

First announced in June 2020, IH Heroes is based on the five core elements of industrial hygiene (IH): anticipation, recognition, evaluation, control, and confirmation. Each element is represented by a level in the game. Players navigate these five levels by performing game activities related to each IH core element, working towards the ultimate goal of detecting and containing a gas leak at a chemical laboratory. Targeted towards players 10 years of age and older, completing the game takes an average of 7–10 minutes.

AIHA’s managing director of marketing and communications, Sue Marchese, said, “Our goal is to always to provide our members with relevant, fun, and engaging resources that they can use to promote the profession of industrial hygiene (part  of the broader field of occupational and environmental health and safety) to the next generation. This award from Brandon Hall Group recognizes our hard work and efforts in this regard.”

“We always strive to harness the power of emerging and experiential technologies to transform how companies and people work and learn,” said Conrad D’Cruz, vice president of digital experiences at Encora. “Supporting and adding value to AIHA on such an important project, especially during these unprecedented times, fills us with pride. This recognition is a validation of the impact we create for our clients through immersive technology solutions, including simulations and gamification.”

Entries to the Brandon Hall Group’s Human Capital Management Excellence Awards are evaluated by a panel that includes Brandon Hall Group analysts and executives and independent industry experts. Points are awarded based on each entry’s performance in the following criteria categories: fitness for the needs of the organization, design, delivery, measurable benefits, and overall impact.

This year’s award winners, including AIHA and Encora, will be honored at Brandon Hall Group’s next Human Capital Management Excellence Conference, which will occur Feb. 1–3, 2022, at the Hilton in West Palm Beach, Florida.
