ASSP Foundation awards $285,000 in scholarships and grants
The American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP) Foundation is awarding $285,000 in academic scholarships and professional development grants to 112 individuals seeking advancement in occupational safety and health.
“The Foundation receives incredible support every year from corporate donors and our ASSP member community,” said ASSP Foundation Chair Linda Tapp, CSP, ALCM, CPTD. “It’s due to the generosity of our supporters that we can help so many people realize their educational and career goals in the safety and health profession.”
The 2020 awards include $261,000 in academic scholarships for 91 graduate and undergraduate students pursuing degrees related to occupational safety and health at 40 colleges and universities across the country. Another $24,000 in professional development grants is being awarded to 21 practicing safety professionals working to advance their careers through certification, college coursework, conference attendance or similar learning opportunities.
New corporate donor Amazon joined longtime donors such as American Contractors Insurance Group, the Board of Certified Safety Professionals, ISNetworld, Liberty Mutual Insurance, Texas Safety Foundation, UPS, WorkCare and others. New scholarship and grant funds were established by Amazon, several members of the ASSP Board of Directors, and the ASSP Rocky Mountain Chapter.
“Our scholarship and grant programs have helped hundreds of students and professionals start or continue their occupational safety and health education,” Tapp said. “The consistent support from our donors demonstrates that safety and health careers are vital in helping to protect workers everywhere.”
The ASSP Foundation, celebrating its 30th year as the charitable arm of ASSP, works to build a strong pipeline of occupational safety and health professionals to make all industries safer worldwide. Its programs and services are solely supported by charitable donations from the ASSP community and corporations motivated to support the profession. The ASSP Foundation has awarded more than $3.2 million in academic scholarships and professional development grants, positively impacting the lives of 1,600 individuals and their families.
