Virtual event series spotlights risk assessment and management

Occupational safety and health professionals can learn how to effectively assess and manage the risks their organizations face by attending SafetyFOCUS: Risk Assessment and Management, a two-day virtual event offered by the American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP). The sessions on Oct. 20-21 are part of ASSP’s new series of virtual education events designed for safety professionals to stay current on best practices while dealing with shrinking travel budgets and widespread physical distancing.

The immersive event – an offshoot of the Society’s annual SafetyFOCUS conference – features industry experts who will share the latest risk assessment and management tools and techniques on a convenient digital platform. Concurrent sessions will cover many topics, including supply chain risk management, mobile robot risk assessment, and occupational safety and health in the tech industry. Attendees can also learn about human resources and the relationship between safety, health and risk management.

“Risk assessment and management are central to the work that OSH professionals do every day,” said ASSP President Deborah Roy, M.P.H., RN, COHN-S, CSP, CIT, FASSP, FAAOHN. “Effective risk assessment and management help reduce the probability of injuries, illnesses and fatalities while keeping workers safe.”

Like all ASSP professional development opportunities, the risk assessment and management event will deliver relevant information that attendees can immediately implement in their organizations. There will be virtual networking breaks between sessions, a live Q&A with industry experts, and an interactive virtual expo with the latest product innovations.

Participants will receive on-demand access for 30 days and can earn up to 1.4 continuing education units (CEUs) to help maintain their professional certifications. Non-members will also receive a free one-year ASSP membership and a practice specialty membership of their choice.

The SafetyFOCUS virtual event series will feature another event the following day – SafetyFOCUS Industrial Hygiene on Oct. 22. Other upcoming topics include human and organizational performance on Nov. 17; business skills and leadership on Nov. 18-19; compliance on Jan. 26; standards on Jan. 27; ergonomics on March 9; and training and education on March 10-11.
